Supporting skin, body and mind

With the ever increasing pace of modern life it’s often hard to find space to recharge and restore balance. As aromatherapists we understand how effective essential oils can be at providing natural support and helping to bring about positive change, that’s why we have personally created Touch and Such products to provide not only exceptionally effective and exquisitely scented organic skincare, but also to make accessing the benefits of aromatherapy a simple part of your daily wellbeing ritual.

What is aromatherapy? Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to support physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Although the word aromatherapy is a fairly recent one, having been first used by the French chemist and scholar Rene-Maurice Gatfosse in the early part of the twentieth century, aromatherapy actually draws on an ancient and widely shared human practice of using aromatic, botanical substances to promote healing and wellbeing.

What are Essential Oils?  Essential oils are 100% natural, aromatic liquids obtained from flowers, fruits, leaves, resins and woods by a variety of methods, predominately steam distillation, which uses water to extract the oils.

How do they work? As well as being uniquely scented, many oils have a range of therapeutic properties and uses in aromatherapy, so Frankincense, a Touch and Such hero oil is, recommended both for its ability to support the skin and its calming and balancing effects on the mood.

Because of their tiny molecular structure and the fact that they are fat soluble, essential oils can be easily absorbed into the body when applied to the skin in a base oil or cream. They can also reach the bloodstream when we inhale, via diffusion thorough the tiny air sacs that surround the capillaries in the lungs.  Once in the bloodstream, the molecules of the oil or oils used interact with the body's chemistry.

Beyond that, just smelling certain oils can have a profound effect on a person’s state of mind. This is because our sense of smell is linked to the limbic system, the area of the brain which is primarily concerned with memory and emotion, the reason why smells have the ability to evoke such strong memories.  So while research shows that smelling certain oils can stimulate the brain to exert neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine, which can help lift the mood and provide support with issues like anxiety, you only need to watch someone smelling an oil they like to know that something positive happens when we use essential oils as a way of encountering scents and smells.
